Filmen der ofte omtales som Greta Garbos bedste hyldes også som en rigtig filmklassiker, men tiden har tæret en del på den efterhånden. De meget smukke billeder af William Daniels, som iøvrigt ofte fotograferede Garbo i flere film, virker meget teateragtige ligesom skuespillet virker meget lidt filmisk. Den relativt korte spilletid giver filmens drama en slags utålmodighed over sig som passer skidt til hvad der faktisk er på færde. Det er dog en god oplevelse og Garbo er virkelig dragende her. Det er ikke til at komme udenom filmen.
